VALE DA ESTRELA PROMOTES THE TRAINING OF FUTURE LOCAL CHEESE MAKERS
Inovcluster – Associação do Cluster Agro-industrial do Centro promoted at the end of 2020 the first edition of “Cheese Makers School”, an initiative aimed specifically at PDO cheese production and integrated in the Program for the Valorization of Cheeses from the Center Region.
Meeting the objectives that aim to reinforce the future sustainability of Serra da Estrela cheese, Vale da Estrela Dairy joined this initiative since the beginning, and welcomed the trainee Pedro Carvalho, offering him an Internship within the program course.
The trainee was able to put into practice the knowledge acquired in the program, and also to have close contact with the day to day reality of the work in a Dairy, observing and participating in all activities such as milk reception, production of Serra da Estrela Cheese, maturation and expedition of products.
This program was coordinated by the Instituto Politécnico de Viseu (PV) and Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco (IPCB), and took place in the agricultural schools of both institutions, within the Program for the Valorization of Cheeses from the Center Region, aiming to value the current producers and to encourage the appearance of new ones.
