Event held in France is one of the three most prestigious competitions in Europe, being the first time a Serra da Estrela Mature PDO Cheese is distinguished.

The prestigious International Cheese Competition “Mondial du Fromage”, one of the three most prestigious competitions in Europe, took place between the 2nd and the 4th of June, and displayed cheeses from the most diverse nationalities.

Present for the first time at this event, and after the process of evaluating the hundreds of cheeses in the competition, VALE da ESTRELA Dairy received the information that it was distinguished with the Silver Medal, being relevant the fact that, for the first time, it was distinguished a Serra da Estrela Mature PDO cheese, one of the most recognized Portuguese cheeses.

At the event, Vale da Estrela Dairy was distinguished for its Serra da Estrela Mature PDO Cheese, a product with certification of “Protected designation of origin” for meeting the most demanding levels of certification, having as a relevant aspect the fact that this cheese undergoes a process of minimum cure of four months.

For Jorge Coelho, Administrator and Promoter of the project, “this distinction represents the fulfillment of an ambition of Vale da Estrela Dairy, which is to raise the quality of a product such as Serra da Estrela Mature PDO Cheese to the level of Excellence, an ambition that is part of this culture. As we live this high moment, Vale da Estrela Dairy shares this award with COAPE and dedicates it to the 40 shepherds and our extraordinary cheesemakers, because only with their work and dedication was it possible to achieve it”.

On this occasion it also adds that “this award, being the first one for the first time to a Serra da Estrela Mature PDO cheese, comes to recognize a product, a region and a county like Mangualde where Vale da Estrela is located, which has considered as its main mission to streamline the Serra da Estrela region for the preservation of a product of unique characteristics that deserves to be among the best in the world.”

Mondial du Fromage

Mondial du Fromage is an event organized in France and which has 4 editions. Tradifoods, as an exhibitor, had the possibility to present a limited number of cheeses to the Contest, having selected the Serra Estrela Mature PDO cheese to participate in this contest, which was distinguished.

The next edition will take place between 6 and 8 June 2021 in the French city of Tours.
