Ursula Heinzelmann, a German journalist specializing in gastronomy and wines, elected Vale da Estrela PDO cheese as the “cheese of the month”.

Ursula Heinzelmann is the author of several publications on gastronomy and a reference in several international newspapers. She visited the Serra da Estrela region in the summer and wrote on her website that she was strongly impressed by the relationship between Serra da Estrela cheese and the region.

Ursula describes the characteristics of Serra da Estrela cheese, the artisanal way in which it is produced and has also traveled to various places in the region to get a more accurate idea of the local environment and the pasture with the Bordaleira sheep. She spoke with shepherds, cheesemakers and producers and recommends to her readers a visit to the region and a tasting of Serra da Estrela cheese.
