The former Ambassador and member of the Academy of Portuguese Gastronomy, Seixas da Costa, made a statement for Vale da Estrela which runs as follows:

“I lived in France for a few years, as a Portuguese ambassador. De Gaulle said that “a country that produces more than 365 species of cheese cannot lose the war”.

Well, in this proud homeland of cheese, whenever I offered Serra da Estrela Cheese to my guests, their eyes shone as if, for a moment, the hundreds of excellent varieties that there are in France had vanished from their memory.

We have other magnificent cheeses in Portugal, but undoubtedly Serra da Estrela Cheese is the king of them all”.
