JORGE COELHO, A NEW LIFE BETWEEN THE CITIES AND THE MOUNTAINS

The Jornal Económico edited today a report on the Vale da Estrela Dairy where it talks about the “second life” of Jorge Coelho.

The report is by journalist Nuno Miguel Silva, for Jornal Económico  and focuses his work on Jorge Coelho’s “return to his homeland”, where he sought a new challenge, “as if it were a second life”.

“His new passion is there, in the mountains, with a business project that started in November” and where the motivations are: emotional and business.

Mangualde was the only municipality that was part of the demarcated region for the production of Serra da Estrela cheese and did not have a certified cheese dairy.

One of the requirements is the commitment to quality because “what counts to have a true artisanal Serra da Estrela cheese comes down to four points: sheep’s milk, salt, thistle flower, and the expertise of human hands”.

The next objectives go through three vectors:

– increase the production of cheese and cottage cheese, a product that has a great output and almost always runs out:

– also produce jams and honey;

– and the last challenge is export – “the nostalgia market is one of our goals, but also some prestigious distribution spaces, such as Harrod’s, in London, with whom we are negotiating. It was a goal of ours to sell 10% of the cheese abroad, a goal that has to go up from year to year” says Jorge Coelho.
